Bipolar Badwise

I must credit my man Benson for this post, he sent me through his latest remix, for the band Bipolar Badwise. As with all remixes I get, if I don't know the original I check it out to see how the remixer edits the song. So I went to their myspace, and immediately fell in love with all their tracks, there was something about their electro/pop sound that stood out.

Their tracks all have a different feel to them, which is impressive for a band who are just getting their feet, on a production side of things. Each track has brilliant vocals that most people can relate too, and a very nice synthy/base sound which just adds to the tracks. If they can perfect their live performance, and continue to gain recogintion I can see big things for them in the coming year.

Before the band formed, Bondy and Brent were in a band called TNB in 2005. Then two things happened that changed their direction. A young man named Dearie came along, and they felt the name TNB name didn't really suit anymore. The second thing was, Bondy purchased 2 cds; Beams by The Presets and Mashed 3 mixed by Tonite Only and Riot In Belgium (both cds which helped to change my music direction as well!). Both were new at the time, and we thought this music was great, especially The Presets' stuff. That was when they decided to change our name and music style.

They also list 6 main bands who influence their sound, 3 old, 3 new. Depeche Mode, The Pet Shop Boys and New Order, as well as Cut Copy, Grafton Primary and The Presets.

Since then their musical influences have branched out considerably; their main source of inspiration, would come from endless boxes of records and cassette tapes their parents owned. Every now and then, they will spend hours looking through these boxes, and listening to these tracks, looking for inspiration for a new sound or song. These tracks were the type that you would hear when you were younger, and thought were complete shit, however now that retro songs and sounds are becoming cooler, you can listen to them safely, without being abused for it.

The boys are still perfecting their live performance, however recently they have made the decision to incorporate live drums into their show. Once this is perfected I have a sneaking suspicion that they will slowly take over the underground Melbourne scene.

Now for some plugging:

  • They are being remixed by, Royal Rumble (USA), Hansom (from Hey now) and Mindgutter (trashbagskids)

  • They are in a competition to win one of their tracks on every iriver ever distributed for 2009 - Link [Note: listening helps, but commenting is even better]

  • They are apart of the Tripe J Unearthed competition, so go rate and review them as a way of giving back if you enjoy their tracks. [Link]

  • Myspace
Benson has added a nice touch to my favorite one of their tracks, he adds a nice baltimore sound which changes the whole feel of the song. Since I last posted his track, he has been working hard on more production and also his live show, having formed a new DJ Posse called Brain Matters, with fellow Central Coaster Northie (who I will be blogging in the coming weeks), be sure to stay tuned to Benson's myspace for more tracks.
